Man Card Monday

Altered Tin

Made this tin for my best friend.  Used a combination of her favorite colors and my favorite colors.  I'm filling it with chocolate and Starbucks Via Coffee packs.  She loves those.  I colored the Maggie.  She's one of my favorite!!

Blogger Nightmare ~ Accidentally Deleted Post

I just had the most stressful moment probably for any blogger...I accidentally deleted the Thursday Tutorial from my blog.  Uuuggghhh!!!! I Googled how to get it back and it worked.  So here is my info for you on how to get back a post that you've accidentally deleted.  First don't leave the page where your posts are listed ...open a new tab and google search the name of the specific post that you're looking for include in the search bar your blog name:

Thursday Tutorial ~ Paper Mugs

 

Since it's the new year and I'm trying to really get this blog cranking, I'm going to TRY to post a tutorial on each Thursday.  If I don't get a chance every Thursday, I will for sure do it every other...but the goal is every week. 

Thursday Tutorial~Paper Mugs (didn't get a chance to post the pics.  Chemo today and now I'm exhausted.  I'll try to remember to do it tomorrow, if not I will definitely do it as soon as I can)  Enjoy!

What you'll need:

12 x 12 heavy cardstock cut to 4 1/2" x 12"
2- 3 1/4" circles cut from same cardstock
1" x 7" strip from same cardstock for handle
3 3/4" x 12" cardstock or heavy paper for decorating the mug (cut this into 10~ 3 3/4" x 3/4" strips.  HINT:  when cutting these strips ...if you're using patterned paper...place each strip (one on top of another) in a stack, as you are cutting each one, take care not to mix them up or your pattern won't work out when you put it on the mug)

A really good strong adhesive: Aleene's Tacky Glue, Tombow or Redline Tape are all good choices

After you cut  your cardstock to 4 1/2" x 12"  you're going to score on the short side at 1/2 an inch.  Then turn your paper a quarter turn, and on the long side, score at every inch.

Then use your bone folder to fold and crease each line that you've scored.  The half inch score line is the bottom of the mug.

On the side where you have scored at 1/2"... at every inch, cut up to the 1/2" score line from the bottom of the paper.  You will have 12 small squares when done.  This will make it easier to fold and glue later on.

Cut a notch, at an angle from the bottom of the paper to the corner of each square that you've cut.  This will make it lay better when you glue the circles in.

Now glue down one side and attach to the other to form the mug.

Flip the mug upside down and put glue on each of the tabs and then place one of the circles over all of the tabs, I'm a perfectionist so I try to keep it even all around and keep the mug from losing it's shape.  :)  Hold it down for a minute or so till the glue somewhat adheres and then flip it over and using your pencil go around the inside bottom edge to push the glue down then add glue to the other circle and put that one on the bottom inside of the mug, again run your pencil around the edge of the mug this will help the glue to adhere better.  This will reinforce your mug and make it much stronger.  Now you can add your handle.  Glue it on the same place where you glued the ends together to create the mug shape.

 Take the 1" x 7" strip of cardstock and using your pencil roll one side under around the pencil till most of the paper is rolled leaving about 2" unrolled.  Then roll the other end up just a couple of times.  Unroll and manipulate the cardstock till you get what should look like a large "question mark".  This will be the handle of your mug.  Add the handle to the panel where the two ends come together to form the mug.

Now you can add your decorative strips.  Starting on the right side of your mug handle use the strip on the top of the stack, add a very thin line of glue as close to all four edges as you can get and then down the center of the strip as well (remember less is more you really don't want to use a lot)...place it in the center of the 1" x 4" panel and work your way around to the other side of the mug centering each strip as you go.  Every so often (if you're using glue and not redline tape you need to go back and press them down again.  And you're done!! You can add any other embellishments you like if you like more...

I've also done Mini Mugs and will happily share the dimensions for those as well.  You can also do this with a sheet of 8 1/2" x 11" cardstock.  I also have the dimensions for those if anyone would like them please just leave me a comment.

Paper Christmas Mugs

These are the Christmas Mugs that I made for the ladies that take care of me at the Cancer Center.  These ladies are extraordinary examples of the spirit of love that it takes to be in the health care field.  They are always compassionate, caring and kind and I wanted to do something to show my appreciation!  I love making these and have made them several times.  I made 32 of them in 3 days....I will post the directions on how to make them soon.  They are super easy to make!  You will love the ease of making these in large quantities so that you can give them as teacher gifts, people in your office, maybe a wedding shower, baby shower etc. 

I filled them with hot chocolate, cookies, chocolates and a candy cane.  Thanks for stopping by

Altered Paint Can

The Altered Paint Can that I made for a swap on Facebook. The flower on top was made with my Blossom Punch from Stampin' Up.  I added a magnet to the back so that she could use it for something else if she wanted too.  I filled the can with Washi Tape.  I hope she loves every roll of it!

Tim Holtz style Tags

Name Plate

This is a project that I recently made for a Stocking Swap.  I made this for my Secret Sister.  I used black paint on a piece of wood and then cut the letters and flourishes on my Cricut.  I glued everything down then put a glossy coat on top using Glossy Accents. I made quite a bit more and will be posting each day.  I also did Tim Holtz style tags again this year in a swap...I will be posting those in the next couple of days.  I hope you'll come back to see more.  As always, thanks for stopping by....

Sincerest Apologies

To all of my awesome blog friends ...I'm really sorry that I haven't posted my blog candy winner or the picture.  I've been very ill and still not feeling well.  I got very sick the day after Thanksgiving and I'm just starting to feel a little better.  Yesterday I went to the chemo center to see the doctor hoping beyond hope that I wouldn't be hospitalized.  I was running high temperatures for 3 days.  Yesterday it was over 102 degrees.  They have cancelled and rescheduled my chemo from this week till next week.  I didn't have to be admitted to the hospital which is such a blessing.... I have another appointment tomorrow.  Still not back to 100% but wanted to let you all know that I haven't forgotten.  I'll pick a winner on Friday if I continue to get better and post later this week, hopefully I'll be much better by Thursday or Friday.  Hope you're all having a wonderful week.  God bless you

Happy Thanksgiving

Wishing you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving and giving thanks to the Lord for all the blessings bestowed upon me and my family today and everyday!  May God bless you in all you do.  So thankful for each and everyone of you. 

Artichoke Stuffing

Food from my childhood always evokes the most special memories of my daddy cooking from the night before Thanksgiving till the early hours of the morning.  The Cajun Gumbo and Artichoke Stuffing always reminds me of my childhood and my Thanksgiving would not be the same without it.  I make it every year.  The picture is of the stuffing before it's baked.  I can't wait till tomorrow to smell it cooking, the tang of the cooking lemons never fails to make my mouth water.  I hope you'll try it.  It's the best!   Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families.  May your day be filled with family fun, love, laughter and great food!!!

 Artichoke Stuffing

Ingredients:

2 – 14 oz. cans of artichoke hearts

1 ½ - 15 oz. canisters of Italian Style bread crumbs

3 lemons

½ cup of parmesan cheese

2/3 cup of extra virgin olive oil

2/3 cup of water

3 cloves of garlic chopped

Salt, pepper and garlic powder to taste

Directions:

In a large mixing bowl add the bread crumbs, parmesan cheese, salt, pepper and garlic powder and mix well, then drain the artichoke hearts and break them apart into the bread crumb mixture add all of the other wet ingredients including the juice of 1 ½ lemons and the chopped garlic.  Slice the remaining lemons and set aside.  Mix together all of the ingredients till a dough ball forms.  I usually use my hands for this part because it’s easier than trying to mix with a wooden spoon.  Then press into a baking dish.  Place remaining sliced lemons on top cover well with aluminum foil.  Bake at 400 degrees till a brown crust forms around the edges.  Enjoy!

New Followers

Celebrating A First

The blog challenge for Friday was that's a first.  You were supposed to create a card to celebrate a first birthday, anniversary, etc.  I chose to make a card for my niece's first anniversary which is coming up.  Yay for me that I'm done with it way before I need it.  I hope you all love it!  I had a great time making it. 

I was trying to do all the challenges for the week. But Saturday's challenge was to do some sewing and stamping on your card and since my machine is not working right now I can't do it.  :(  I'll be trying for 7 days this week with the new challenges.  Keep stopping by as there will be lots more.  Right now I'm also working several crafts for my sister and I'm also involved in a swap on Facebook with some lovely ladies.  I can't post the pictures till I send out the packages just in case my secret diva comes to take a look.  But I've been taking pictures as I go and will have a lot to show you all.  Thanks for stopping by

365 Cards: Day 319 - That's a First

Love...blog challenge

In this blog challenge you were asked to think about something uplifting for the ones you love and share it on your card.  I chose to do a card for my friend who is at the end of her chemo but will be beginning her radiation about a month later.  We have been keeping each other company since my first chemo.  I was nervous and upset and she really helped set me at ease.  I'll still have 2 more treatments left when she is done, I'll miss her so much and wanted to convey my love, friendship and thankfulness with this card.

The inside will read... Love is what gives us hope, keep the faith, find the strength and have the courage to continue to fight the fight!  Don't forget to FIGHT LIKE A GIRL...wishing you all the love and support that you've given me for these last few months.

365 Cards: Day 318 Love is in the Air

More Blog Challenges

For this challenge you were supposed to highlight your sentiment, give it a pop of color and make it stand out.  I'm pretty sure that my bling accomplished this task.  I love Stickles and used it to give my sentiment a pop. 

I also used the Stickles to highlight the snowflakes that are floating around on my card.  I used beading to give it a little bit extra because it just didn't look like it was done.  Hope you love it.   Thanks for looking.

For Day 317 you were supposed to make a card with a "flag".  I'm really into Christmas cards right now with the upcoming holiday and thought this was a great way to add some challenges to my Christmas card collection.  I love doing these!  I hope this will help you to embrace your inner creativity.  I have a few more touches to put on the others that I've created for this weeks blog challenges.  I did all 7!  SO excited!  Hope that these will excite you too!  Come back for the rest later

365 Cards: a new card challenge every day

Blog Challenges

If you feel like your crafting/cardmaking has gotten a little rusty...why not try some Blog Challenges.  I've been pondering this thought for several days.  I finally decided to do it.  So here are my creations.  The first challenge was to follow the sketch provided.

The second challenge was to raise up at least four items.  I have been making these triple stamped cards for a little while...I'm really in love with them.  For this one I decided not to layer them one on top of the other, instead I chose to set them off center.  I also raised the snowflakes but not sure if you can really tell.  I'm really excited by the way this one turned out.
